WHO Declares Mpox No Longer Global Emergency; Africa Vigilant
The World Health Organization (WHO) has decided that the mpox outbreak is no longer a global health emergency.
This means it's not seen as a major threat worldwide anymore.
This decision was made because the number of mpox cases and deaths has gone down in countries like Congo, Burundi, Sierra Leone, and Uganda.
Even though the alert level is lower, the WHO says we still need to watch out for new outbreaks and support people who are more likely to get very sick.
Mpox can cause fever, aches, and a rash.
WHO declared mpox is no longer a Public Health Emergency of International Concern.
The decision followed advice from the WHO's Emergency Committee.
The WHO declared the emergency in August of the previous year.
The decision was based on sustained declines in mpox cases and deaths.
