Mayawati Revives Brahmin Outreach To Rebuild BSP's 2007 Coalition

Mayawati wants to make the Bahujan Samaj Party stronger again in Uttar Pradesh.

She is trying to attract Brahmins and other upper-caste voters, as the BSP did successfully in 2007.

She has given Satish Chandra Mishra important election-related duties.

The BSP also plans to nominate more upper-caste candidates.

In 2007, the party won 206 Assembly seats and formed a majority government.

Since then, the BSP has won fewer votes and seats.

Many Brahmin voters now support the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Dalit voters, who were once central to the BSP, have also moved toward other parties, including the BJP.

The Samajwadi Party is trying to attract Dalits through its Backwards, Dalits and Minorities platform.
