Navi Mumbai Woman Survives Stroke and Repeated Cardiac Emergencies
A 68-year-old woman became very sick with problems affecting both her heart and brain.
She was treated at a hospital in Navi Mumbai.
A blood clot travelled from her heart to her brain and caused a stroke.
Doctors used a procedure to remove the clot and help blood flow to her brain.
Her heart also developed a dangerous rhythm that made it unable to pump blood properly.
The medical team used CPR and electric shocks to try to restore a safer rhythm.
Doctors later implanted a device that can monitor her heartbeat and deliver a shock if a dangerous rhythm returns.
After more than a month in hospital, she improved and went home in stable condition.
A 68-year-old woman was admitted to Fortis Hiranandani Hospital in Vashi with breathlessness, cough and palpitations.
Doctors found severe heart weakness, a fast heart rhythm and fluid in her lungs.
During her stay, a clot from her heart caused a stroke, which doctors treated with mechanical thrombectomy.
She suffered repeated dangerous heart rhythm episodes and received more than 15 electric shocks, followed by further shocks during another emergency.
Doctors implanted an AICD; after more than a month in hospital, she was discharged in stable condition.
