Indian Singer Darshan Magdum Finally Gets US O-1 Visa
Darshan Magdum is a singer from India who likes to sing popular songs on purpose in a funny, off-key way.
Lots of people on the internet loved his silly videos.
He joined a pop group called Boy Throb, which has four members.
He was the only member from India.
The other members perform in America, but Darshan could not join them because he did not have a visa.
A visa is a special permission that lets someone travel to another country.
Boy Throb and their fans asked the US government to give Darshan a visa, even changing the words of songs to ask for help.
After many months of waiting, the US government said yes.
Now Darshan can finally travel to America and sing on stage with his band.
Darshan Magdum, the only Indian member of pop group Boy Throb, has finally received his US O-1 visa after months of waiting.
Boy Throb announced the news on August 3 in a video showing Magdum, still in India, telling his bandmates over a video call.
Magdum became popular by posting deliberately off-key versions of popular songs and quirky performances on social media.
According to The Guardian, the band rewrote lyrics of popular songs to appeal to US authorities to approve Magdum's visa.
The O-1 visa is a non-immigrant US work visa for people with extraordinary ability, with an initial stay of up to three years.
