Delhi prepares 81 artificial ponds for Ganesh idol immersion

Delhi has made 81 special ponds for people to immerse Ganesh idols.

These ponds are meant to keep the Yamuna and other water bodies cleaner.

People are being asked not to put idols, flowers or other puja materials into rivers or lakes.

The government has also created 110 collection centres for old or damaged idols and religious items.

Some collection centres will be at places such as temples.

Officials recommend idols made from natural clay or other materials that can break down safely.

They advise people to avoid Plaster of Paris idols and harmful chemical colours.

The ponds will have services such as lighting, security, medical help and cleaning.

The Ganesh festival ends on September 25, when many idols will be immersed.
