SC Rules Murder Accused as Adult, Overturns Juvenile Verdict
Imagine someone was accused of a crime a long time ago.
A lower court thought they were a kid back then, but the highest court, the Supreme Court, looked at the evidence again.
They found that the person was actually an adult when the crime happened because of their birth records.
The lower court's decision was wrong.
So, the Supreme Court decided that the person should be treated as an adult in the case.
The trial court now has to hold a trial to make a final decision.
Supreme Court overturned lower court rulings, determining an accused was a major, not a juvenile, at the time of a 2011 murder.
The court cited discrepancies in birth records, including a family register indicating a 1991 birth year for the accused.
A medical board report also supported the accused's age, estimating him to be around 22 years old during the incident.
The accused was previously declared a juvenile by the Allahabad High Court and a trial court, but those orders were set aside.
The Supreme Court directed the trial court to proceed with the case, setting a deadline for completion by July 2026.
