New Catfish Species Found in China
Scientists in China found a new kind of catfish in a river.
This catfish is special because it has a big lower lip and some bumpy things on its edge.
They first thought it was another kind of catfish, but after looking closely, they realized it was a new species.
This discovery helps scientists understand more about fish and how they change over time in the mountains.
The new catfish is called Glaridoglanis verruciloba sp nov.
It is the third of its kind to be found.
The scientists think this will help them learn more about the different kinds of fish in that area.
A new species of catfish, Glaridoglanis verruciloba sp nov, was discovered in the Xia River, Zayul County, Xizang Autonomous Region, China.
The species is distinguished by its large lower lip and 4-7 verruciform lobes on its central-western edge.
Specimens were initially mistaken for G andersonii but were confirmed as a new species through morphological and molecular analysis.
The discovery was made by a joint research team from several institutions and published in the journal ZooKeys.
This is the third recognized species of the genus Glaridoglanis, providing important insights into fish diversity and evolution in the Himalayan area.
