BMHRC Cleared in Patient Death Case
A woman complained to the District Consumer Grievances Redressal Forum in Bhopal, India, saying that her relative died after a medical procedure at Bhopal Memorial Hospital and Research Centre (BMHRC).
The family claimed that the hospital was negligent because the patient was dropped while being moved, given the wrong blood type, and received blood that was about to expire.
However, the court found that the patient already had a medical condition before coming to the hospital.
The court also said that giving A-Negative blood to an A-Positive patient is acceptable, and the blood had not yet expired.
Therefore, the court did not find the hospital at fault.
The District Consumer Grievances Redressal Forum in Bhopal found no negligence by BMHRC in the death of a patient after angioplasty.
The patient had pulmonary edema before being admitted to BMHRC, contradicting the complainant's claim of injury during transfer.
The hospital administered A-Negative blood to an A-Positive patient, which is medically acceptable.
The blood transfused had not yet expired, making it safe for use.
The patient died on June 27, 2003, after the procedure and blood transfusion.
