Supreme Court Signals Steps to Fast-Track West Bengal SIR Appeals

The Supreme Court is looking at ways to hear voter-list appeals faster in West Bengal.

The appeals are being handled by 19 tribunals.

They relate to a process called the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls.

Some people have appealed because they want to be added to the voter list.

Others have appealed to have someone else removed.

The court said cases about adding people could be heard first.

Cases about removing voters might be heard later.

It has not yet said exactly when or how it will do this.
