Indian Financial Stocks See Outflows Amid GST Reforms
In August, investors pulled a lot of money out of Indian financial stocks, the most in seven months.
This was partly due to worries about bank profits and economic concerns.
Overall, investors removed billions of dollars from Indian stocks.
However, the government also made taxes simpler and cheaper on many goods with the GST, which should help people buy more things.
Although there are concerns about the economy, experts think that the tax changes will help the market, which has not done as well as other countries this year.
Foreign investors sold ₹232.9 billion in Indian financial stocks in August, the highest in seven months.
FPIs pulled $4 billion from Indian equities in August, a seven-month high.
Financial services index fell 4.1% during the month, dragging the Nifty 50 down.
GST Council simplified tax structure to two tiers (5% and 18%), aiming to boost consumption.
Analysts expect selling pressure to ease as macro fundamentals remain steady and GST cuts support consumption.
