Global Markets React to U.S. Inflation Data
On Friday, stock markets around the world reacted to news about U.S. inflation.
In Australia, shares went up because banks and real estate stocks did well.
The S&P/ASX 200 index rose by 0.6%.
In India, the Sensex and Nifty also went up but not as much as they did at the start of the day.
In Europe, shares were mostly flat, with banks doing well but tech and consumer stocks losing value.
The STOXX 600 index was down slightly.
Some investors are excited because they think the U.S. Federal Reserve might cut interest rates, but others are careful because the inflation data might not be completely accurate.
Australian shares rose on Friday, led by banks and real estate stocks, with the S&P/ASX 200 index up 0.6% at 8,653.30 points.
Indian benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty trimmed early gains in afternoon trade, with Sensex up 0.38% and Nifty up 0.41%.
European shares were muted, with the STOXX 600 down 0.1%, as gains in banks were offset by losses in tech and consumer stocks.
Market sentiment improved following a slower-than-expected U.S. consumer price inflation report, raising expectations for Federal Reserve rate cuts in 2026.
Analysts cautioned against over-optimism, noting potential distortions in U.S. inflation data due to the recent government shutdown.
