Pakistan Approves Biman Airways Direct Flights
Pakistan has given permission to Biman Airways, the national airline of Bangladesh, to start direct flights between Dhaka and Karachi.
This is a test run that will last until March 30.
The two countries have been talking about this since last year, especially after their relations improved.
The flights will follow Pakistan's aviation rules, and the details about when the flights will happen will be decided next week.
This is expected to help both countries trade more, do more business, and have better cultural exchanges.
The Bangladesh Ambassador in Pakistan, MD Hussain Khan, had confirmed both countries were close to signing a deal on allowing direct flights.
In recent months, Pakistan and Bangladesh have been trying to get closer, starting sea trade in late 2024 and signing six agreements last August.
These agreements cover things like visa exemptions, trade cooperation, media collaboration, and cultural exchanges.
Pakistan's aviation authorities have approved Biman Airways to operate direct flights between Dhaka and Karachi on a test basis until March 30.
The permission comes after discussions between Pakistan and Bangladesh governments, which have been ongoing since last year.
The flights will be operated under Pakistan Civil Aviation rules, with details of flight schedules and operations to be finalized next week.
The move is expected to boost trade, business, cultural ties, and people-to-people contacts between the two countries.
The improvement in relations between the two countries followed the ouster of former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Wajid in August 2024.
