Nepal Floods Raise Gandak River Risk Across India

Nepal Floods Raise Gandak River Risk Across India

A huge flood happened in Nepal after a glacier-related event caused an avalanche.

The flood sent a lot of water into rivers in Nepal.

One of these rivers is called the Narayani in Nepal and the Gandak in India.

The river crosses the border because water does not follow political boundaries.

It eventually flows through Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.

Officials in both Indian states warned people that flooding could worsen.

Bihar opened all the gates of a large barrage to help manage the water.

Some villages in Uttar Pradesh were told to move to safer places.
