8th Pay Commission May Reshape Salaries Beyond Fitment Factor

8th Pay Commission May Reshape Salaries Beyond Fitment Factor

The 8th Pay Commission is studying how much central government employees and pensioners should be paid.

It will hold meetings in Jaipur on 31 August and 1 September.

Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai leads the commission.

The earlier 7th Pay Commission changed the way salaries were organized by creating a Pay Matrix.

It also used a 2.57 fitment factor and raised minimum basic pay to ₹18,000.

It reviewed many allowances and changed housing allowance rules.

Annual increments stayed at 3% under the 7th Commission.

The new commission may change several parts of pay, not just the fitment factor.
