Federal Immigration Agents Shoot Man During New York Arrest

Federal immigration officers shot a man while arresting him in New York City on Thursday.

The man was hurt but survived and was taken to a hospital.

The Department of Homeland Security said the arrest was part of a targeted operation, but it did not explain exactly what led to the shooting.

The agency said the man had a past grand larceny conviction and other arrests.

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani called for ICE raids in the city to stop.

Some people at the scene protested and chanted for ICE to leave.

New York Governor Kathy Hochul said authorities should explain what happened.

City police said their officers did not see the shooting and were not involved.
