PLI Scheme Boosts Electronics, Pharma, Medical Devices
The Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme in India has helped increase production in electronics, pharmaceuticals, and medical devices.
However, investments, sales, and job creation are still lower than expected.
Electronics production has grown a lot, with India becoming a big hub for mobile phone manufacturing.
The pharma sector has also improved, especially in making important medicines and exporting them.
Medical devices are now being made in India that were earlier imported.
Overall, the scheme is helping India make more things at home and become a bigger player in these industries.
Electronics production increased by 146% from FY21 to FY25 under the PLI scheme.
Pharmaceuticals saw cumulative sales of Rs 2.66 lakh crore, with Rs 1.70 lakh crore from exports.
Medical devices sector started manufacturing 54 previously import-dependent products.
Actual investments under PLI are Rs 2 lakh crore, lower than the expected Rs 3.48 lakh crore.
The scheme generated 12.6 lakh jobs, falling short of the expected 39 lakh jobs.
