Private Sector Investments Surge, Government Investments Decline
The private sector in India is making more investment announcements than the government.
In the first quarter of this year, the private sector accounted for 87% of new investment announcements, the highest in many years.
Overall investment went up, but that's partly because last year was slow.
The government is investing less, while the private sector's investments grew significantly, though it's coming off a low point.
More projects were also completed during this time.
Private sector's share in new investment announcements hit a multi-decadal high of 87% in Q1FY26.
Overall investment value rose 43% YoY to Rs 4.1 lakh crore, on a low base.
Private sector investments surged 151% YoY, also due to a low base.
Government investments contracted 63% to the lowest since June 2020.
Completed projects rose 174% YoY, reaching Rs 2 lakh crore in Q1FY26.
