Punjab’s government is giving more dearness allowance, or extra money, to government workers and pensioners.

About eight lakh people may receive the benefit.

The total increase is 8 percent, paid in two parts of 4 percent each.

One report says this brings the DA rate to 50 percent.

The increase will apply to September salaries, which are scheduled to be paid on October 1.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann announced regular meetings with employee representatives.

The government also said women employees should be posted within 40 kilometres of their homes.

Officials said the measures would help workers and their families, especially before the festive season.
