Ladakh Completes Census 2027 Enumeration Despite Harsh Conditions
Census teams have finished counting people in Ladakh for Census 2027.
They completed work in all 695 areas where the counting took place.
Some areas were snowy, remote, and difficult to reach.
The teams also worked near borders with Pakistan and China.
The larger snow-bound operation covered 5,292 areas in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
Ladakh was the first Union Territory to finish this work.
Kishtwar was the first district in India to finish.
Officials said preparation and help from local administrations and residents supported the effort.
Ladakh completed population enumeration across all 695 Enumeration Blocks in September 2026.
The blocks included 367 in Leh and 328 in Kargil.
The exercise covered 5,292 blocks across Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
Kishtwar was the first district in India to complete enumeration for Census 2027.
Officials said teams worked through snow, difficult terrain and sensitive border areas.
