India Proposes Duties on Vietnamese Steel to Aid Steelmakers
Imagine India wants to protect its steel factories, so they're making Vietnamese steel more expensive.
They're adding a special tax, like a fine, on steel from Vietnam.
This "fine" is like $121.5 for every ton of steel.
This should help Indian steel companies because the steel coming from Vietnam will be more costly, like Vietnamese steel is having to pay extra to come here.
This will give them a fighting chance since a lot of steel has been coming from Vietnam recently, which may make their product more competitive.
This will help Indian steel companies do well and give good jobs.
India's DGTR proposed anti-dumping duties on certain Vietnamese steel products.
The duty would be $121.5 per ton on hot-rolled flat steel products from Vietnam.
The duty aims to shield Indian steelmakers from cheap imports, especially HRC.
Imports of HRC from Vietnam rose from 1.87 million tonnes in FY23 to 4.07 million tonnes in FY25.
Indian steel producers like Tata Steel and JSW Steel are expected to benefit.
