Trump's $7 Billion Deal for 11 Arctic Icebreakers Draws Scrutiny

Trump's $7 Billion Deal for 11 Arctic Icebreakers Draws Scrutiny

An icebreaker is a very strong ship that can smash through thick, frozen ice.

These ships help other boats travel in freezing places like the Arctic.

President Trump wanted the United States to have more icebreakers because Russia has many more.

He decided to spend almost seven billion dollars on 11 brand-new icebreakers.

The Coast Guard said earlier that it only needed four or five of these ships.

The new ships will be built in Finland and in the United States.

Some people think the deal happened too fast and cost too much money.

Others say the icebreakers will make America strong in the Arctic.

There were also worries that there is no plan to pay for keeping the ships running.

The first ships are supposed to arrive before President Trump's term as president ends.
