Samsung Biologics Acquires US Drug Facility
Samsung Biologics, a big company from South Korea that makes medicines, is buying a drug-making factory in the US.
They are getting this factory from a company called GSK for $280 million.
The factory is in Maryland and can currently make a lot of medicine.
Samsung plans to make the factory even bigger and better.
They expect to finish buying the factory by the end of the first three months of 2026.
Another South Korean company, Celltrion, also wants to make medicines in the US.
There are some rules about taxes on medicines from South Korea to the US, but they are not too high.
Samsung Biologics is acquiring its first US drug production facility from GSK for $280 million.
The facility, located in Rockville, Maryland, has a current capacity of 60,000 liters of drug substance.
Samsung plans to invest additional funds to expand the facility's capacity and upgrade its technology.
The acquisition is expected to close around the end of the first quarter of 2026.
South Korea's Celltrion is also planning to produce drugs in the United States.
