Uttar Pradesh Restores Bhadohi to Sant Ravidas Nagar
The state of Uttar Pradesh in India decided to change the name of a district back to Sant Ravidas Nagar, which honors a famous Dalit saint named Guru Ravidas.
The change was announced by the chief minister, Yogi Adityanath, during a big event in Varanasi.
A former party leader, Mayawati, said the change was good and asked the government to change other district names that were changed by her party years ago.
She also said the previous government had renamed districts for bad reasons.
The other party, the Samajwadi Party, said the BJP keeps changing names and that people will vote them out in the next elections.
The move is part of the BJP’s plan to win more support from Dalit voters before the 2027 elections.
Uttar Pradesh government restored Bhadohi district name to Sant Ravidas Nagar, honoring Dalit saint Guru Ravidas.
BSP leader Mayawati praised the move and urged restoration of other district names created during BSP rule.
Mayawati criticized the Samajwadi Party for renaming districts, citing casteist motives.
Yogi Adityanath announced the renaming during BJP’s “Samarasta Sankalp Abhiyan” launch in Varanasi ahead of 2027 elections.
Samajwadi Party’s Akhilesh Yadav accused BJP of habitually changing names and said voters will change the government in 2027.
