Mangaluru Summit to Celebrate 100 Years of Cashew Processing
Imagine a big party for cashews in Mangaluru!
This year, they are celebrating 100 years of making cashews into tasty snacks right there.
Experts will come together to talk about how to sell more cashews around the world and how to get people in India to eat more of them.
They also want to grow more cashew nuts in India.
During the party, they will also celebrate another important project that has given away lots of baby cashew trees to farmers.
These trees help grow more cashew nuts, which is good for the environment and for the cashew business.
The first cashew factory started in Mangaluru a very long time ago, and now it's a huge part of the town's history.
Mangaluru will host the 'Kaju Centennial Summit 2025' from November 14-16 to mark 100 years of organized cashew processing.
The summit will focus on global market trends, strategies to increase domestic cashew consumption, and achieving a target of 2.5 million tonnes of domestic raw cashew nut (RCN) production by 2030.
The event coincides with the 10th anniversary of the 'Vriksha Raksha, Vishwa Raksha' initiative, which has distributed over 1.3 million cashew saplings to farmers.
Mangaluru is recognized as the birthplace of India's organized cashew industry, with the first factory established in 1925 by Peirce Leslie India Ltd.
Karnataka accounts for 25% of India's total cashew processing, with the industry growing from 70,000 tonnes in the 1970-80s to over 5 lakh tonnes today.
