Jail-Born Man's Fight for Dignity Continues After Court Ruling
Imagine if your official papers said you were born in a very unusual and sad place, like a jail.
That's what happened to Sunil.
He was born in jail because his mom was there.
But when he grew up, that word on his papers made it hard for him to go to school, get jobs, and even be accepted by people.
He asked for the papers to be fixed and for help because it was so unfair.
A special group agreed and said he should get money and a corrected paper.
But the government disagreed and is now asking a higher court.
Sunil feels sad and like he's still trapped, even though he's not in jail anymore.
He just wants to be treated like everyone else and live a normal life.
Sunil Ghule was born in Buldhana District Jail in 1995 as his mother was an undertrial prisoner.
His birth certificate listed 'Buldhana Jail' as his birthplace, leading to social stigma and lost opportunities.
The Maharashtra State Human Rights Commission ordered the correction of his birth certificate and Rs 3 lakh compensation.
The State government challenged the MSHRC order in the Bombay High Court, citing lack of proof of suffering.
Despite the MSHRC order, Ghule continues to face social exclusion and rejection from his village.
