Mumbai Court Sentences Chembur Man For Casteist Slurs Against Ambedkar

A court in Mumbai sentenced Shakil Shaikh to six months in prison.

The case involved an incident in Chembur in 2016.

Prosecutors said Shaikh used insulting caste-based words against advocate Vinod Satpute.

They also said he made insulting comments about Dr B R Ambedkar.

Shaikh said he was innocent and had been falsely accused.

His lawyers pointed out that no independent witnesses or CCTV footage were presented.

The court said Satpute and his brother gave consistent evidence.

It decided that the prosecution had proved the accusations.
