Shiva Nirvana Learned Filmmaking as a Cooler Boy
Shiva Nirvana wanted to learn how movies were made.
He especially wanted to watch director Ram Gopal Varma work.
Varma’s film sets were difficult for outsiders to enter.
So Shiva took a job carrying water and managing air coolers on the set of Rakta Charitra.
This allowed him to stay nearby and watch the filmmaking quietly.
Varma did not know that the cooler boy was actually an aspiring director.
Years later, Shiva told Varma what he had done.
Varma felt amused and moved by Shiva’s determination.
Shiva later became the director of Irumudi, starring Ravi Teja.
Before directing Irumudi, Shiva Nirvana worked as a “cooler boy” on Ram Gopal Varma’s Rakta Charitra set.
He took the job to gain access to Varma and quietly observe how he directed films.
Varma did not know Shiva was an aspiring filmmaker or recognize him during the shoot.
Shiva recently told Varma the story when he visited Varma’s set while Varma was working with Manoj Bajpayee.
Varma said Shiva’s determination showed what a creative mind can achieve by starting at the bottom.
