Bankipur Bypoll Counting Begins Amid Low Turnout
A special election was held in a part of Bihar called Bankipur because the previous representative left to join a national body.
On 30 July, 26 people ran for the seat, including Prashant Kishor, who is running for the first time.
Only about a third of the voters turned up, which is less than in the last big election.
Counting of the votes started on 3 August.
Kishor said he is fighting for a change in politics and has complained that the police may have stopped some of his supporters from voting.
The main opponents are a young BJP candidate and a woman from the RJD party.
Counting of Bankipur bypoll votes began on 3 August 2026 with 26 candidates.
Voter turnout was about 34.2%, down from 41.5% in the last assembly election.
The seat was vacated after BJP MLA Nitin Nabin resigned to join the Rajya Sabha.
Prashant Kishor, founder of Jan Suraaj Party, is contesting his first election and has filed a complaint against Patna police.
Main contenders are Kishor (Jan Suraaj), Neeraj Kumar Sinha (BJP), and Rekha Gupta (RJD).
