MoSPI Progresses on National Household Income Survey

MoSPI Progresses on National Household Income Survey

The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) is conducting a big survey called the National Household Income Survey (NHIS) across India.

This survey, which started in April 2026 and will continue until March 2027, aims to measure household income and living conditions.

The results are expected by mid-2027 and will help improve how we calculate important economic numbers like GDP and CPI.

MoSPI is also doing other surveys, like one on businesses in the service sector and another on migration.

Some experts have concerns about how the informal sector's performance is estimated, but MoSPI says they are using better methods now.

The ministry is also working on making economic data more accurate and reliable.
