India Shifts to Solar-Plus-Storage Tenders
The Indian government is asking companies that handle solar power projects to focus more on solar panels combined with battery storage.
This is because these combined systems are becoming cheaper and can provide power during times when it's needed the most.
The government has already achieved half of its electricity from non-fossil fuel sources, which is a big deal because it happened five years earlier than planned.
They are also taking steps to make sure that more states and companies use renewable energy.
This includes organizing workshops and encouraging states to follow rules about using renewable energy.
The government has issued tenders for a lot of renewable energy capacity, and they are making sure that these projects are completed on time.
MNRE asks REIAs to shift from vanilla-solar tenders to solar-plus-storage tenders.
Solar-plus-storage configurations are preferred over wind-solar hybrids for peak demand supply.
REIAs have issued LoAs for 67,554 MW of renewable energy capacity between April 2023 and October 2025.
India has achieved 50% of its installed electricity capacity from non-fossil fuel sources, five years ahead of schedule.
Government is taking proactive measures to facilitate the execution of PPAs and encourage renewable energy use.
