India’s August Inflation Rises as Food Prices Diverge

India’s prices rose faster in August 2026 than in July.

Overall consumer inflation reached 4.82%.

Food prices rose even more, reaching 5.95%.

Silver jewellery became much more expensive than a year earlier.

Ginger, onions, garlic and some other items also cost more.

Tomatoes became much cheaper compared with August 2025.

Potatoes and some vegetables also had lower prices than a year earlier.

This shows that inflation did not affect every product in the same way.
