Jaishankar Links Sri Lanka Fishermen Arrests to Emergency Era Actions

In 1975, India's government declared an Emergency, which meant they had extra powers and made some big decisions without asking everyone first.

One of these decisions led to Indian fishermen getting arrested by Sri Lanka later on because India gave up their fishing rights in certain areas.

The Foreign Minister, Jaishankar, is saying that this problem comes from the actions taken during the Emergency and criticizes the Congress party for not apologizing for it.

He also said that some people in power at the time put their own family's interests ahead of the country's.

The minister believes the current generation should learn from the past and prevent similar situations from happening again.
