Andhra Pradesh Information Commission Dismisses 102 RTI Appeals

The Andhra Pradesh Information Commission rejected 102 requests made by B. Gopal under the Right to Information Act.

The commission said many of his requests were repeated or went beyond what the law allows.

Officials said he had made more than 300 requests since 2002.

Some officials also alleged that he asked farmers for money after collecting information about them.

The commission said the RTI law is meant to provide records that already exist.

It said officials do not have to create new answers or investigate every complaint through RTI.

Officials were told not to accept future requests from Gopal if they appear intended for personal benefit.

The district collector was also asked to check whether Gopal improperly received a white ration card.
