Sony plans record 59,000-screen Diwali 2026 release for Ramayana film
An epic new movie based on the ancient Indian story of Ramayana is being made.
It is one of the biggest and most expensive Indian films ever created.
The movie stars famous actors like Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi and Yash.
The makers plan to show it in about 59,000 movie theaters around the world.
That is even more screens than the giant Hollywood movie Avatar.
The story will be told in two parts, like two big chapters.
Part 1 comes to theaters on November 6, 2026, just before Diwali.
Part 2 is planned for Diwali in 2027.
The movie will be available in nearly 50 languages so people everywhere can watch it.
The makers hope this ancient story becomes a huge hit across the globe.
Ramayana: Part 1 is planned for a record 59,000-screen global rollout, surpassing Avatar: The Way of Water as well as Indian blockbusters RRR and Pushpa 2: The Rule.
The ₹4,000 crore film is produced by Prime Focus Studios, DNEG and Yash's Monster Mind Creations, with Sony Pictures as distribution partner.
Ranbir Kapoor leads the cast as Lord Rama, alongside Sai Pallavi (Goddess Sita), Yash (Ravana) and Sunny Deol (Lord Hanuman).
Producer Namit Malhotra said the teaser crossed over a billion views in five days.
The film will launch in nearly 50 languages using DNEG's Brahma AI lip-sync technology, alongside premium IMAX presentations.
