Forum Urges Simultaneous Clean-up of Hussain Sagar, Musi River
A civil society group, the Forum for Good Governance, wants the government to clean up Hussain Sagar Lake at the same time they work on cleaning up the Musi River.
They say that cleaning the river won't work well unless they also clean up the lake.
Past attempts to clean the lake, including one project costing ₹370 crore, didn't succeed due to issues like how to get rid of the polluted stuff they removed and bad planning.
The lake gets polluted from drains carrying sewage and chemicals.
The group thinks that if they clean both the lake and the river at the same time, it will be much more effective.
FGG suggests integrating Hussain Sagar cleaning into the Musi river rejuvenation.
Past projects to clean Hussain Sagar failed due to issues like waste disposal and lack of planning.
The Hussain Sagar Lake and Catchment Area Improvement Project (HCIP) was launched in 2006 but did not meet objectives.
Significant funds were spent on study tours and expert consultations with limited results.
Kukatpally nala diversion, despite funds allocated, still pollutes Hussain Sagar.
