BRICS Backs India’s UN Role, Seeks Greater Global South Representation

BRICS is a group of countries that wants international organizations to better represent today’s world.

Its members adopted a declaration calling for changes to the United Nations.

They said developing countries should have a louder voice in global decisions.

China and Russia supported India and Brazil seeking bigger roles at the United Nations.

BRICS also recognized African countries’ requests for stronger representation.

The group wants more women and developing-country representatives in international leadership.

It also called for changes to institutions such as the International Monetary Fund and World Bank.

BRICS said the World Trade Organization should have a working system for settling trade disagreements.
