Top Indian Firms Lose Over Rs 88,000 Crore Amidst Market Downturn
Imagine companies have price tags that show how much they are worth, called market capitalization.
Last week, the price tags for seven of the biggest companies in India went down, losing a lot of value together.
This happened because the stock market was a bit shaky.
Companies like Airtel and TCS lost the most value from their price tags.
However, some companies like LIC, SBI, and Bajaj Finance saw their price tags go up, helping to reduce the total loss across the top ten companies.
The overall stock market indices, Sensex and Nifty, also went down slightly by the end of the week.
This market movement was influenced by global worries and money leaving India's stock market.
Seven of India's top ten most valued companies saw their market capitalisation decrease by a total of Rs 88,635 crore.
Bharti Airtel and TCS experienced the steepest declines in market cap, losing Rs 30,506 crore and Rs 23,680 crore respectively.
Reliance Industries, HDFC Bank, Hindustan Unilever, Infosys, and ICICI Bank also saw their market capitalisations fall.
Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC), State Bank of India (SBI), and Bajaj Finance posted gains in their market capitalisations.
The BSE Sensex and Nifty 50 both saw minor declines during the holiday-shortened trading week.
