Nauradehi Sanctuary to Potentially House Cheetahs
India is planning to give more cheetahs new homes!
Right now, cheetahs live in two wildlife areas, Kuno and Gandhi Sagar, in Madhya Pradesh.
They are planning to introduce more cheetahs in Nauradehi soon.
Officials are checking Nauradehi to make it a good place for cheetahs to live.
They are setting up specific areas within the forest for the cheetahs.
Cheetahs were brought to India from other countries as part of a plan to bring these animals back to India.
The first set of cheetahs were brought to Kuno in 2022 and more were added in 2023.
Nauradehi Wildlife Sanctuary in Madhya Pradesh is being considered as a third home for cheetahs.
A team from the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) is assessing the sanctuary for suitable cheetah habitat.
Three forest ranges within the Veerangana Durgavati Tiger Reserve (Mohali, Jhappa, Singpur) are proposed for cheetah introduction.
Cheetahs were previously introduced in Kuno National Park (2022) and then to Gandhi Sagar (2023).
Kuno National Park currently houses 31 cheetahs, and two males have been relocated to Gandhi Sagar.
