South Korea Tests Arctic Shipping Route Amid Western Concerns

South Korea is sending a container ship through the Arctic to Europe.

The ship will leave from Busan and stop in Britain, the Netherlands and Poland.

The trip should take about 40 to 45 days.

Melting sea ice makes the route easier to use during summer.

South Korea hopes the route could make shipping faster and help Busan become a major shipping hub.

However, the ship needs Russia’s cooperation and permits.

Some Western countries do not want to work with Russia because of its war in Ukraine.

Experts also say the route may be expensive and cannot be used safely all year.
