Arunachal draft proposal to scrap 80:20 recruitment ratio ready

Arunachal draft proposal to scrap 80:20 recruitment ratio ready

In a part of India called Arunachal Pradesh, the government hires people for government jobs.

Right now, most of those jobs — 80 out of every 100 — are saved for people from tribal communities who have lived in the state for a long time.

The other 20 jobs are open for everyone, and tribal people can also apply for them.

Many student groups think this rule is not good enough and want it changed.

The government made a special committee to study the problem.

A minister named Nyato Dukam says the committee has finished writing a new plan.

The new plan would remove the old 80:20 rule and might ask job seekers to show special certificates proving they live in Arunachal Pradesh or belong to a tribal community.

It might also test candidates on the local dialect.

The student groups want the government to say yes by August 15, or they will hold a big protest on August 17.

The plan now goes to the state Cabinet for final approval on August 13.
