Shelton surges as Zverev narrows Sinner's ATP rankings lead
The latest tennis rankings brought several big changes.
Ben Shelton moved up to fifth after reaching his first Grand Slam final.
Alexander Zverev won the tournament in New York and moved closer to the top-ranked Jannik Sinner.
Sinner kept the No.
1 position despite losing points while absent because of an injury.
Frances Tiafoe and Karen Khachanov also moved higher after reaching the semifinals.
Novak Djokovic dropped to 12th after losing in the first round.
This means the three famous players known as the Big Three are all outside the top 10.
That has not happened since October 2002.
Ben Shelton rose from ninth to fifth after reaching his first Grand Slam final and earning 1,200 points.
Alexander Zverev gained 1,900 points by winning in New York, narrowing Jannik Sinner’s lead at the top.
Frances Tiafoe climbed four places to eighth, while Karen Khachanov jumped 24 places to 26th.
Novak Djokovic fell from fifth to 12th after losing his US Open first-round match to Mariano Navone.
For the first time since October 2002, Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer and Djokovic were all outside the ATP top 10.
