Mizoram Eye Donation Pledges Reach 9,345 After 33 Additions

Thirty-three students in Mizoram promised to donate their eyes after they die.

Their promises increased the state’s donor total to 9,345 people.

Donated corneas can help restore sight to people whose corneas are damaged.

Cornea donation must happen quickly after someone dies.

Mizoram has an eye bank that collects donated corneas.

So far, 632 people have donated their eyes after death.

The eye bank collected 42 corneas during the current financial year through July.

Doctors have already performed 23 corneal transplants during that period.
