MP Appeals to Reopen 10 Closed Barak Valley Post Offices
A member of the Rajya Sabha, Kanad Purkayastha, has asked the Union Minister of Communications, Jyotiraditya Scindia, to reopen 10 post offices in Barak Valley that were closed in August.
These post offices are very important for people in the area, especially the elderly, farmers, and those living in remote places.
They use these offices for banking, sending money, and receiving mail.
The MP said that closing these offices is causing problems for many people and is also causing the postal department to lose money.
He wants the minister to help reopen all 10 offices as soon as possible.
Rajya Sabha MP Kanad Purkayastha appeals to Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia to reopen 10 closed post offices in Barak Valley.
The post offices have been closed since August 2023, causing public hardship and affecting essential services.
Only one of the 10 post offices has been reopened so far.
The closures disproportionately affect the elderly, farmers, and residents of remote areas who rely on these offices for banking, remittances, and mail delivery.
The MP highlighted that all affected post offices were profit-earning and their closure results in revenue loss for the Department of Posts.
