Supreme Court Seeks Tribunal Vacancy Details From Centre

The Supreme Court is checking whether important tribunals have enough people to work properly.

Tribunals are bodies that decide certain legal disputes.

Some Debt Recovery Appellate Tribunals have too many empty positions.

The Centre said there are about 90 vacancies across these bodies.

A committee is working on appointments for 81 of them.

The court said people should not lose access to justice because tribunals lack members.

It temporarily allowed three National Green Tribunal members to continue working until replacements are appointed.

The Centre also said 248 members could continue under the Tribunal Reforms Act, 2026.
