Multiple Online Scams Net Millions in Hyderabad
Imagine someone promises you easy money through your phone, like getting paid for giving good online reviews or investing in a special app.
Many people in a city called Hyderabad believed these promises.
One person was tricked into investing a lot of money in a fake app that showed fake profits.
Another person thought they were doing a part-time job by rating things, but they also lost a lot of money.
Someone else got a scary call about a fake insurance policy on their bank card and clicked on a fake link, giving away their money details.
A software engineer was also fooled by a fake trading app, where he invested almost all his savings expecting huge profits.
In all these cases, the scammers pretended to be real companies or people, showed fake money in accounts, and then asked for more money for 'fees' or 'taxes' before disappearing with the victims' savings.
A homemaker lost Rs 10.4 lakh in a fake part-time job scam involving rating businesses on Google Maps via a Telegram app.
A software engineer lost over Rs 51 lakh through Telegram and fake e-commerce websites offering part-time job review tasks, involving investment and fake deficits.
A 27-year-old private employee lost Rs 1.6 lakh through a phishing scam involving a fake bank website and app, prompted by a fabricated insurance policy charge.
A 34-year-old software engineer lost nearly Rs 63 lakh in an online investment scam using a fake trading app and WhatsApp, involving fake IPO allotments and 'loan' demands.
