India's Multidimensional Poverty Declines Sharply in Nine Years
Imagine a way to measure poverty that looks at more than just money, like health, education, and basic needs.
India has been using this method, called the Multidimensional Poverty Index, to see how many people are struggling.
Good news: a lot of people are doing better!
The number of people in poverty has gone way down, meaning millions more have access to things like better healthcare, education, and a better standard of living.
The government has been working hard to provide clean water and build homes, which has helped improve the lives of many families.
India's multidimensional poverty declined from 29.17% in 2013-14 to 11.28% in 2022-23.
24.82 crore people escaped poverty during this period.
The National Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI) measures poverty based on health, education, and living standards.
The MPI considers 12 indicators, including nutrition, schooling, and access to resources.
The government has implemented schemes providing tap water and housing for poor families.
