Overcrowding Preceded Fatal Electrocution at Mumbai Ganesh Pandal

Overcrowding Preceded Fatal Electrocution at Mumbai Ganesh Pandal

Two people died and four others were hurt near a Ganesh festival pandal in Mumbai.

One of the people who died was an eight-year-old girl, and the other was a woman.

Electricity was found at a temporary stall near the pandal entrance.

Officials said the danger may have started with a short circuit.

Residents and eyewitnesses said a very large crowd pushed people into the stall.

They said the stall’s iron beams may then have touched the electricity.

Some pandal workers also received electric shocks while helping.

The injured were first taken to Astha Nursing Home and later to Masina and Global Hospital.

Residents said better crowd control and more police could have helped prevent the dangerous congestion.
