Pune Court Orders Drunk Driver to Distribute Awareness Flyers
A man in Pune, India, was caught driving after drinking too much alcohol.
Instead of just paying a fine, a judge gave him a special task.
He has to make 1,000 little papers, like tiny posters, that talk about why driving drunk is very dangerous.
Then, he has to go to busy traffic lights and give these papers to people driving cars.
This is his punishment and a way to help teach others to be safe.
He also has to pay a fine.
If he doesn't do his special job or pay the fine, he could face a short jail sentence.
A Pune court sentenced a 28-year-old man caught drunk driving to a Rs 10,000 fine.
The driver must also print 1,000 flyers on the dangers of drunk driving and distribute them at traffic signals.
This unique sentence is part of community service under the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023.
Failure to pay the fine or complete the flyer distribution could result in 10 days of simple imprisonment.
The Pimpri Chinchwad police have booked 2,984 drivers for driving under the influence between January and September this year.
