Indian Firms Expand US Investments Amid Tariff Pressure

Several Indian companies are putting large amounts of money into businesses in the United States.

Essar Group announced the biggest plan, worth $18 billion, to build a large steel complex.

Other companies, including JSW Steel and Sun Pharmaceutical, are also expanding or buying businesses there.

One reason is that the United States has raised tariffs on some imported metals.

The US president has also threatened higher tariffs on generic medicines made outside America.

This makes companies consider producing more goods inside the United States.

These investments are happening while India and the United States discuss a trade deal.

India is receiving more foreign investment, but its government still worries that investment growth is not strong enough.
