Shashi Tharoor Urges Opposition to Learn From Youth Revolt
Shashi Tharoor says many young Indians are angry about exam problems, unemployment and government inaction.
A satirical online movement called the Cockroach Janta Party turned that anger into protests.
The movement used jokes, memes and simple ways for people to participate.
Tharoor says traditional Opposition parties did not react quickly enough.
He believes young people often feel blocked by older leaders and political families.
He wants parties to give young citizens real decision-making roles.
He also wants politicians to focus on practical problems such as paper leaks and job recruitment delays.
He says parties should support independent youth movements instead of trying to control them.
His main message is that Indian politics must listen to young people and adapt.
Shashi Tharoor says the Cockroach Janta Party movement channelled anger over exam paper leaks, test cancellations and youth unemployment.
The movement reportedly grew from a satirical response to Chief Justice Surya Kant’s alleged description of unemployed youth and activists as “cockroaches and parasites.”
Tharoor argues that established Opposition parties were slow to address young people’s immediate educational and economic concerns.
He attributes this weakness to hierarchical party structures that limit meaningful opportunities for young leaders without political connections or money.
Tharoor calls for internal party democratisation, concrete policy demands, support for independent movements and more culturally resonant political communication.
